Police Nabs Notorious Eko Bridge Robber Who Allegedly Withdrew N150,000 From Victim’s Account

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Ebute-Ero Division of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a notorious robbery suspect, Tejumola Yekini for terrorising and robbing road users on Eko Bridge, Lagos Island.

The suspect was arrested for allegedly attacking and robbing a victim identified as Bassey Dominic of his Techno phone valued at N180,000, cash sum of N43,000 and forcing the victim to transfer the sum of N150,000 from his account to the suspect account before abandoning him and fled.

The suspect allegedly armed with a cutlass and other dangerous weapons swooped on the victim who was walking home on bridge at about 10.30 pm, robbed him of his properties, held him down and allegedly forced him to transferred N150,000 to his account and fled.

Following the incident, the victim reported the matter to the DPO in charge of Ebute-Ero Division who directed his men to do everything they could to arrest the fleeing suspect.

Following the directives, the Police team tracked the suspect to a beer parlour on Lagos Island and arrested him.

After investigation by Inspector Benson Idomian and his team, the suspect of no fixed address was charged before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a two-count charge bordering on armed robbery.

Police prosecuting Counsel, Inspector Magaji Haruna informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on 26 April, 2025 on Eko Bridge, Lagos.

Haruna told the Court that the defendant attacked the complainant with cutlass and other dangerous weapons on the bridge, robbed him of his properties and forcefully withdrew the sum of N150,000 from his account, abandoned him and fled before he was tracked and arrested.

He said the offences, the defendant committed were punishable under Section 411, contrary to Section 296 and punishable under Section 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

Magistrate A.O Alogba adjourned the case till 31 July, 2025 for mention.
