Man Arraigned For Bolting Away With Cows Worth N5.6m Entrusted To Him

A man, Adamu Mohammed, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly bolting away with cows worth N5.6m entrusted to him by the owners, Mrs. Fatima Ibrahim and Mohammed Ibrahim Chede.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 9th September, 2022, at Epe area of Lagos.

According to the Police, the victims entrusted the cows to him as shepherd with certain conditions of payment. However, after he received the cows, he reportedly sold them and ran away for about three years with the hope that the owners may have forgotten before he eventually came back to Lagos.

The matter was reported to the Police at the Commissioner of Police Special Squad in Ikeja, Lagos. The Police operatives moved into action, eventually arrested and detained him at the Command for interrogation.

After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable for selling the cows and running away. He was consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

The charge read:

COUNT I: “That you, Adamu Mohammed “M” and others at large on the 9th day of September, 2022 at about 08:30pm, at Epe Area of Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: stealing and hereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

COUNT II:”That you, Adamu Mohammed “M” and other at large on the same date and time in the aforementioned magisterial district, did steal seven cows valued Five Million, Six Hundred Thousand Naira (N5,600,000.00), property of one Mrs. Fatima Ibrahim ‘m’ and Mohammed Ibrahim Chede ‘m’ and hereby committed an offence contrary to Section 281 (1) (a) (b) punishable under Section 287 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

However, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Phillip Ademigbuji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
