Lagos Trains 150 Students on Golf Basic Techniques

Lagos Secondary Schools Students receiving instructions from coaches on basics rudiments of golf at the recently concluded 3rd Awa Ibrahim Junior Golf Tournament in Lagos at the Agege Stadium 

Lagos State Sports Commission has trained 150 secondary school students during the 3rd Awa Ibrahim Junior Golf Open Championship held at the weekend. 

The three days training exercise held at the Agege Stadium from Thursday 20 to Friday 21 October and Ikeja Golf Club featured 15 secondary school students selected from Educational District 1 is part of the 3rd Awa Ibrahim Junior Golf Open Championship for Boys and Girls in Lagos

The students were taken through the basic techniques and the ethics of golf by the coaches of Lagos State Golf Association.

Adesuwa Osahon, the Secretary of Lagos State Golf Association said that Lagos State Sports Commission decided to support the training aspect of the Awa Ibrahim tournament for it to promote and popularise golf in the government’s Junior and Senior Secondary Schools in Lagos State, and to identify, discover and nurture new budding talents, as well as to serve as a platform for continued development and progression of the game of golf in Lagos State towards the discovery of the next world class golfers by year 2020.

Speaking after the training exercise, the Sports Officer in charge of the Educational District 1, Mrs Esther Akande expressed her joy for the opportunity extended to the students to participate in the training of golf basis.

She advocated that the Lagos State Sports Commission should make it an annual exercise for development of the game at the grassroots.

One of the participating students from Iju Junior Grammar School, Lawal Timi Lenin said: “I am so happy to be part of this landmark programme. In this three day intensive training exercise in golf basis, techniques and ethics, I have learnt a lot.”

He gave kudos to the Lagos State Government for organising the programme.
