How Receptionist Stole Lodger’s N570m Inside Hotel Room

A 35-year old receptionist, Adesanya Adure, has been arrested and charged before a Magistrate Court in Wuse, Abuja, for stealing $380,000 Dollars, which the Naira equivalent is over N570m belonging to a lodger, Ohakwe Ebere, in FCT, Abuja.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the Mountain of Fire Hostel where the complainant lodged and kept the money under the bed for safety.
It was said that the receptionist went to the room, reportedly stole the money and went away.
The prosecuting counsel, Samuel Emmanuel, told the Court that the complainant, Ohakwe Ebere, reported the matter at the Utako Police station on Tuesday, 2nd September, 2025 and the defendant was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over the missing money.
After investigation, the Police found him culpable and charged before the Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
While the defendant was being arraigned in Court, the prosecutor, Emmanuel, told the Court that the defendant, a receptionist at the Mountain of Fire hostel, changed the bed space of the complainant, who lodged at the said facility on Monday, 1st September, 2025, without her consent.
He further added that the defendant stole the said money, which the complainant kept under the bed and the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the penal code.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
The Presiding Magistrate, Farida Ibrahim, granted the defendant N300,000 bail with one reliable surety in like sum, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The Court ordered that the surety must depose an affidavit of means of livelihood and address will be verified by the court’s registrar.
The matter was adjourned till 2nd October, 2025, for trial while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
