Man, 50, Arraigned For Battering LASTMA Officer On Highway

A 50-year-old man, Olajide Bambe, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly battering a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officer, Dare Medahunsi, while performing his duty on the highway. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 11th August, 2025, at Berger Expressway in the outskirts of Lagos.
According to the Police, the victim, Dare Medahunsi, attached to Ojodu Berger Zone of LASTMA, accosted the suspect over undisclosed offence, which led to exchange of words. And in the process,  the suspect rained punches on his stomach and inflicted injury on him.
The matter was reported to the Police. The suspect was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct against the complainant.
He was found culpable after interrogation and consequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ikayere, told the court that the defendant committed the offence by assaulting Dare Medahunsi, a LASTMA officer attached to Ojodu Berger Zone, by punching him on the stomach while on duty.
She further stated that the defendant also obstructed the officer from performing his lawful duty, thereby causing breach of public peace and the  offences contravened Sections 172 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Lateef Owolabi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 24th September, 2025, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
