A 33-year old man, Mohammed Sanni, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly recruiting himself as a Military Officer and resuming duty at Muritala Mohammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos.
The suspect was apprehended on 25th July, 2025, at the Airport Terminal two in Ikeja, where he wore a Military camouflage and presented himself as a Military personnel.
However, while he was operating at the airport, the Police intelligence operatives on routine monitoring accosted him for checks.
While being interrogated, he reportedly claimed to be a personnel but was unable to explain himself satisfactorily and was taken to the Airport Police station for further investigation.
The Police found him culpable after he confessed that he actually recruited himself into the Military and was not detailed by the Military authority.
He was subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Mohammed Sanni ‘m’, on the 25th day of July, 2025, at about 13:00hrs, at Murtala Muhammed Int’l Airport Terminal Two, Ikeja, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did falsely present yourself to be a Military personnel by wearing Military camouflage vest knowing fully that you are not and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 380 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Philip Ademigbuji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
