Man, 59, Arraigned For Knocking Off Rival’s Tooth During Public Brawl

A 59-year old man, Sunday Ajayi, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly knocking off the tooth of his rival, Adewale Omotoye, by giving him a fist blow during a public brawl.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 27th September, 2025, at Abule-Egba area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect had a disagreement with the complainant over an undisclosed matter, which led to exchange of words and degenerated later to a fight.
During the fight, the suspect displayed his boxing prowess and knocked off the complainant’s tooth. He was said to have bled profusely and was rushed to hospital for treatment.
The matter was reported to the Police at Oke-Odo Division. He was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charge read:
“That you, Sunday Ajayi ‘M’ on the 27th September, 2025, at about 10:30hrs at Abule-Egba, Alimosho in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully remove one tooth from one Mr. Adewale Omotoye ‘M’ by giving him a fist blow, which gave him grievous harm, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 245 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
