From Buried Bodies To Buried Truths: The Twists Keep Coming In ‘Mother of the Brides’

Posted on November 13, 2025

If you’ve been following Mother of the Brides on Africa Magic (also on Showmax), you know by now that this show has mastered the art of the unexpected.

Just when you think the chaos has peaked, a new twist rises from the ashes. Episodes 16 to 18 take the story to new depths, and honestly, what more surprises do we have coming? Because this time, the plot didn’t just thicken, it exploded.

Mai Sisi (Gloria Anozie-Young) wasn’t lying when she said, “even in death, Erasmus still finds ways to surprise.” The man left behind more than memories; he left a mess.

With Erasmus (Kalu Ikeagwu) finally buried, Adesuwa (Ego Ihenacho) wastes no time staking her claim. Alongside Patrick (Eliel Otote), she locks Mai Sisi and her daughters out of the Sylva Whyte mansion. The same house Mai Sisi fought so hard to protect is now off-limits to her.

But the true blow comes when the bank drops a bombshell: Erasmus’ beloved house was mortgaged, and the clock is ticking; 30 days to pay off the loan or lose it all. Suddenly, the battle for inheritance takes a darker turn. For all her plotting and sacrifices, Mai Sisi now faces losing everything to the very system she’s been fighting to outsmart.

Still, she refuses to fold. While she’s piecing her next move together, Athena (Fae Olumide) is nurturing Solape (Jessica Gabriels’ Ujah), the woman carrying what could be Erasmus’ posthumous child. And if that child turns out to be a boy, it could change everything. Tradition says the boy becomes the rightful heir, a devastating blow for Mai Sisi, who remains unaware of Solape’s condition or location. The irony is sharp: a woman who’s fought so hard against patriarchy may now be undone by it once again.

Yet even in her darkest hours, life throws her a lifeline, or maybe another test. Lazarus, her old ally, calls with a secret that could expose Adesuwa’s lies and turn the tide in her favour. Then comes an unexpected call from an investment bank: an unclaimed ₦250 million belonging to Erasmus. But here’s the twist: for Mai Sisi to access it, she must prove she’s his rightful heir by custom. And according to those customs, only a man qualifies.

It’s a cruel irony, the very system that denied her peace in life now dares to question her death place.

At this stage, it’s no longer about wealth or reputation; it’s about how far Mai Sisi will go to protect what’s left of her world, even when everything and everyone seems to turn against her. For every door that closes, she finds a window. But as the surprises keep coming, you can’t help but wonder, how much more can she survive before the whole house of cards collapses?
