A 39-year-old man, Michael Segun Odumabo, will be spending the rest of his life in prison custody for defiling his 16-year old biological daughter in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that it was the judgment of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, which found him guilty and sentenced him accordingly.
The presiding judge, Justice Rahman Oshodi, convicted and sentenced him on one count charge of defilement under the Criminal law of the State.
The charge read: ”That you, Michael Segun Odumabo, sometime between the months of January and February 2020, around Ikorodu, Lagos State, within the Ikeja Judicial Division, defiled one minor aged 16 years by unlawful sexual intercourse”.
“This offence is contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
However, Odumabo had pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The victim was living with the defendant, who is her father at that time, when her mother had left the defendant’s house.
The defendant is the father of three children, two girls and one boy and the victim is his first daughter.
The prosecutor presented only one witness and the IPO woman, ASP Adeniyi Tapered, tendered exhibits including the confessional statement of the defendant.
The defendant admitted in his extra judicial statement that he used to sleep with the survivor because the mother denied him sex. And that was only three times.
The said confessional statement was tendered and admitted without objection by the defence.
The defence further rested its case on the case of the prosecution.
Justice Oshodi, in his judgment, held that the prosecution had proven and established the one-count charge of defilement against Odumabo beyond reasonable doubt.
He therefore, found the defendant guilty as charged and convicted him accordingly.
