The police at the Ilasan Division, Lekki, Lagos have arrested a 32-year old man, Audu Umoru, who claims to be a banker for allegedly peeping at a naked housewife and co-tenant, Regina Obiga.
This allegedly happened while the woman was inside the bathroom taking her bath.
The incident, according to the police, occurred at Block 325, Flat 4, Jakande Estate, Lekki, Lagos where the suspect resides with the complainant.
After investigation, Umoru was arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on a one count charge of felony for viewing the nakedness of Regina Obiga while she was taking her bath and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
Police prosecutor, Sgt. Adeleye Oluwafunmi informed the court that the accused who claimed to be a banker committed the offence in August 2016 at Jakande Estate, Lekki, Lagos.
Oluwafunmi told the court presided over by Magistrate Mrs. F. F George that the accused deliberately forced the tenant’s bathroom door open to view the nakedness of the complainant knowing full well that she was inside the bathroom taking her bath.
He said when the complainant shouted at him to lock the bathroom back and leave, but the accused refused instead he stood there look at her nakedness.
Oluwafunmi said the complainant in anger raised an alarm which attracted neighbours who rushed out to challenge the accused why he was viewing the nakedness of a housewife, wondering if he wanted to rape her.
He said the accused who did not show any remorse replied that he stood at the bathroom to hasten up the complainant to finish her bath on time and come out to enable him take his bath because he was late for work.
Oluwafunmi said the offence is punishable under section 166(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2016.
Umoru pleaded not guilty to the alleged crime in the open court and the Magistrate Mrs. George admitted him to bail and adjourned the case till 16 September, 2016 for mention.
