A 24-year old lady, Halimat Jubril, suspected to be an armed robber, has been arrested with a fabricated Barretta pistol and she was unable to explain what she was doing with the pistol on the highway in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened along the ECOWAS highway in Badagry area of Lagos State, where the Police Tactical team from the Lagos State Command apprehended the suspect.
According to the Police, the suspect and others now at large conspired and were in unlawful possession of the firearm before she was apprehended by the Police operatives on the routine monitoring in the area.
The suspect was arrested with the pistol and detained at the State Command for interrogation. She denied that she was an armed robber but was unable to explain what she was doing with the pistol.
However, the Police found her culpable and charged her before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
“That you, Halimat Jubril ‘f’ and others now at large on the 20th day of September, 2025 at about 1130hrs at ECOWAS highway along Badagry Expressway, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony wit: unlawful possession of firearm and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
COUNT 11:”That you, Halimat Jubril ‘f’ and others now at large on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did have in your possession one fabricated Barretta pistol without any authority and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 4&8 and punishable under Section 27(1)(il)(iii) of the Firearm act Cap f28, Vol 6 laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2010.”
However, the Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol Phillip Ademigbuji, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted the request and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for advice, while the defendant was remanded in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
