15 Years After Defunct Larry FC Revived, Launched In Lagos

The defunct Agege-based club, Larry Football Club on Sunday was revived and relaunched by the former and officials of the club.

The amateur club was dissolved by the President and Founder, Mr Ebenezer Adewale Sanyaolu 15 years ago following his inability to keep the club due to lack of financial support.

The relaunch took place during a reunion event organized by the ex players, bringing together more than 40 members physically, with several others joining virtually from the Diaspora.

Their collective presence and support demonstrated a renewed commitment to rebuilding the club that shaped their formative years.

It was an emotional event when the President and founder of the club,Sanyaolu began to speak on “Reviving the Legacy and Building the Future,”

While addressing the gathering, Sanyaolu reminded the former players and officials who were in attendance the sacrifices he made to keep the club thriving during its active years.

The club president recounted how he personally financed the team providing jerseys, boots, equipment, logistics, and transportation. He also spoke how he often supported players and officials with their personal needs.

“There were days I diverted funds meant for my education business just to keep the club running.At some point, I nearly crippled my business in the name of keeping the Larry FC dream alive,”he said.

Reflectingon the club’s achievements, Sanyaolu also reminded players of Larry FC’s memorable victories, including lifting the Commissioner’s Cup, MAF Cup, Speaker’s Cup, and Oba’s Cup. He also recalled the famous matches against Enyimba FC, where Larry FC triumphed 3–1.

In his emotional speech, Sanyaolu quickly paid tribute to some players who passed away in the years past and prayed for the deceased families left behind the fortitude to bear the loss.

The founder emphasized that the late players are no longer physically present but their contributions remain unforgettable.

Sanyaolu disclosed that the revived Larry FC begin training session on February 2026 saying that the coming back of Larry FC would be good and better for the football lovers of Agege and Lagos at large.

Representing the Chairman of Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area, Hon. Akinola Idowu, the Chief of Staff, Hon. Tijani Oluwafemi, expressed delight at the club’s revival noted that the return of Larry FC will inspire young football talents across Lagos.

At the event, the Orile-Agege LCDA Chairman, Akinola Idowu was also honoured with an award and decorated as a Life Patron of the club.

Award was also presented to Honourable Abayomi Sanyaolu, the Ogun State IPAC Chairman, who also the Chairman political party, Action Alliance, Ogun State chapter and General Secretary of the Larry FC.

Other awardees are players, officials, and supporters whose efforts were instrumental in sustaining and advancing Larry FC during its earlier years.
