A serving Police Officer, Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere, attached to the Strike Force Squad at Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos, has done the unimaginable for daring the Inspector General of Police by  refusing to honour his invitation over allegations of gross misconduct against him.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Inspector General of Police, through the office of Public Complaint Unit, Force Headquarters in Abuja, summoned Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere over his alleged conduct against the complainant, Kolawole Oluakamo.
However, after several months of Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere receiving the invitation, he has refused to go insisting that if the IGP wants to see him through the complainant’s unit, they have to come to Lagos because he was not ready to go anywhere. He has maintained the stance and the Police seem so helpless as to what to do with him for several months.
Findings at Zone 2 Command Headquarters revealed that since Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere received the invitation, he has stopped reporting to duty and the Nigeria Police was said to have been paying his salary regularly.
Inspector Onyekwere landed in trouble over his conduct by allegedly planning with a notorious land grabber, Akeem Ajakaye, to assassinate a land owner, Kolawole Oluakamo, in order to take over his land.
The incident happened at the four plots of land located at Ijagemo Road, Tailor Bus-stop, Ijagemo area in Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State, valued at over ₦40m belonging to Mrs. Ibiyemi Iyabode.
The victim, Kolawole Oluakamo, was brutally attacked and has been lying critically ill at an undisclosed hospital, where the Doctors are battling to save his life over the bloody attack by the perpetrators, Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere, Akeem Ajakaye and others now at large.
The victim, Oluakamo, was attacked  over his little effort to protect family property in the Ojo area of Lagos after Inspector Ifeanyi conspired with Ajakaye to take over two plots of land.
They were alleged to have shot Oluakamo, used cutlass and other dangerous weapons to attact him knowing fully that the owner, Mrs. Ibiyemi, is abroad.
Apart from attempting to kill the victim,  Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere and Akeem Ajakaye were alleged to have destroyed the foundation and started using the blocks and iron to build on the same land.
According to Oluakamo, the land — four plots, has been under his lawful care for over 10 years without any issues until earlier this year when Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwene teamed up with some land thugs (“omo onile”) and local family heads to seize the property by force.
He alleged that the family head, Mr. Akeem Ajakaye, conspired with the Police officer and hired thugs to eliminate him. The attacks, he claimed, reached a terrifying peak on 23rd September, 2025, when armed men allegedly ambushed, beat him mercilessly and warned him to stay away from the property or face death.
He narrated that when he later discovered that Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere was serving at Zone 2 Command, he went there and reported and the Zone 2 Command discovered that he had proven evidence against the suspects.
Inspector Ifeanyi, having realized that the evidence against him was weighty, he quickly hijacked the matter and transferred it to Force Headquarters Annex, Kam Salem House at Obalande, Lagos, while the investigation is still going on.
He stated that at the Kam Salem House, one of the Police officers, identified as Obi Stanley, seized his phone, deleted recorded evidence and threatened to lock him up after a heated argument with his lawyer.
Following the conduct of Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere, the complainant wrote a petition to the IGP, who directed the Public Complaints Unit to invite Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere for interview at the Force Headquarters Abuja. But he refused to go for the interview after repeated reminders by the Force Headquarters.
Meanwhile, the victim, Oluakamo, is battling to save his life at an undisclosed hospital.
Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere was said to have have ignored the IGP’s invitation and wrote a letter to the victim,
Oluakamo, through the Chambers of Kelly Buluku threatening to take legal action against him over the publication of his conduct in the media.
In the said letter, Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere claimed to have bought the land in question sometime in February, 2025, while the owner purchased the land over 10 years ago.
Part of the letter stated:
“We have been briefed and our professional services retained by INSPECTOR IFEANYI ONYEKWERE (hereinafter referred to as “our Client”), upon whose clear instruction and authority we write this letter.
BACKGROUND OF FACTS
It is our brief that sometime in February, 2025, our Client, after having undertaken comprehensive due diligence through his Solicitors, lawfully acquired a parcel of land for valuable consideration from the Ajakaye family (hereinafter referred to as “our Client’s predecessor-in-title”). The said property comprises two plots situate and lying at Ijagema Road, Tailor Bus Stop, Ijagemo Area, Ojo Local Government Area, Lagos State. Upon completion of the transaction, our Client took lawful possession and commenced development thereon without let or hindrance.”
“However, around the month of September, 2025, our Client was alerted by his workers on site that you had invaded our Client’s land and was destroying ongoing construction works and building materials belonging to our Client. When confronted by our Client, you falsely claimed that your sister, one Mrs. Ibiyemi Iyabode, had purchased the same land from our Client’s predecessor-in-title.”
“It is our further brief that you subsequently lodged a spurious, fictitious petition with the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 Command, Onikan, making false allegations against our Client and our Client’s predecessor-in-title.”
“However, in a surprise twist, the Police at Zone 2 Command issued an instruction to the parties without an order of Court that no further work should be carried out on the land, which left our Client’s predecessor-in-title unsatisfied, causing them to lodge a petition with the office of the Inspector General of Police at Kam Selem, Lagos where you were arrested, your extra-judicial statement taken and then released on administrative bail, which you subsequently jumped, refusing to honour further police invitations.”
“This publication clearly amounts to defamation, pure negligence and cyber harassment within the meaning of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015, and constitute actionable tortious conduct under Nigerian law.
OUR DEMANDS
In light of the foregoing, we hereby make the following demands on behalf of our client
1.That you retract the aforesaid defamatory publication of October 17, 2025, both in print and online, within seven (7) days of your receipt of this letter.
“That a public apology be issued by you, published on the pages of the PM Express newspaper, both in print and online, and in two (2) national daily newspapers online and in print.
TAKE NOTICE that in the event of your failure to comply with these modest demands within seven (7) days of your receipt of this letter, we shall be left with no choice but to comply with our Client’s further instruction to initiate legal proceedings against you for defamation, cyberstalking, and seeking compensatory reliefs.”
This letter is not intended as a complete or exhaustive statement of our client’s rights, legal or equitable, in connection with the above matter, and we expressly reserve all rights and remedies available to us under law.
Much obliged in anticipation of your urgent, favourable response.
Yours faithfully,
FOR: KELLY BULUKU CHAMBERS”
It appears that Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere has overpowered the Nigeria Police to do what he likes with impunity.
Findings revealed that in Nigeria, a serving Police officer generally needs permission or approval from the Police Commissioner or relevant authority to sue a person over defamation, especially if the defamation relates to their official duties. This is often part of police service regulations to ensure actions align with the Force’s interests.
But in this case, Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere is seeking for legal action against the victim without any known approval from the Police Authority.
