Man, 45, Docked For Inflicting Injury On Neighbour With Cutlass During Public Brawl

A 45-year old man, Ibrahim Tajudeen, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly attacking and inflicting injury on his neighbour, Raphael Chimerie, with a cutlass during public brawl.

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 15th January, 2026, at Oremeji Street off lyana Isheri, Isheri Oshun area of Lagos, where they reside.

 

The cause of the disagreement between the suspect and the complainant was not clear as to inflict such injury on the complainant.

 

According to the Police, the suspect and complainant had a disagreement over an undisclosed matter which led to exchange of words. In the process, the suspect brought out a cutlass and used it to inflict injury on the complainant before he managed to escape but by then he had sustained serious injuries on his body.

 

The victim was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment and the matter was reported to the Police at Isheri Oshun Division. The suspect was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

 

After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

The charges read:

COUNT I:”That you, Ibrahim Tajudeen ‘M’ on 15/01/2026 at about 01:30hrs at N0.2, Oremeji Street off lyana Isheri, Isheri Oshn, Lagos, in the Lagos state magisterial district, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by attacking one Raphael Chimerie ‘M’ of the above mentioned address with cutlass, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 168(d) law of Lagos State Nigeria 2015.”

 

COUNT II:”That you, Ibrahim Tajudeen ‘M’ on the same date, place and time at the aforementioned magisterial district, did unlawfully assault one Raphael Chimerie ‘M’ by cutting him with a cutlass to cause him bodily harm, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 173 law of Lagos State Nigeria 2015.”

 

COUNT III:”That you, Ibrahim Tajudeen ‘M’ on the same date, place and time at the aforementioned magisterial district, did cause grievous harm to one Raphael Chimerie ‘M’ by giving him deep cut with a cutlass all over his body, which led to permanent injury on him, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 245 criminal law of Lagos State Nigeria 2015.”

 

He pleaded guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable him to present the facts of the matter so that the Court will sentence him accordingly, in order to serve as deterrent to others who might want to commit such crime in future.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, F.R Oguntayode, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos and adjourned the matter till 17th February, 2026, for facts and sentence.
