A man, Mansur Garba, has been sentenced to death for killing his bosom friend, Tasiu Haruna, following a disagreement over an undisclosed matter at a guinea corn farm in the Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that it was the judgment of the Kano State High Court, which found him guilty for murder under the Criminal Law of the State and sentenced him accordingly.
The presiding judge, Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu of the Kano State High Court, in the judgment stated that the prosecution prove the case against the convict beyond reasonable doubt, having presented seven witnesses and tendered several exhibits as evidence before the Court.
Commenting on the death sentence, the State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude (SAN), said the judgment is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the Kano State Ministry of Justice to the diligent prosecution of violent crimes.
He commended Barrister Safiya Yalwati Yahaya, Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, who led the prosecution team, for her professionalism and dedication.
Maude noted that this conviction marks her second successful prosecution of a high-profile criminal case within a short period.
The Attorney General reassured residents that the Ministry of Justice will continue to pursue justice with firmness, fairness, and strict adherence to the rule of law.
“Perpetrators of violent crimes will be held accountable, and the sanctity of human life will always be defended,” Maude stated.
The convict was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will be executed in line with the judgement of the State High Court unless he appeals the judgement.
