Man, 25, Batters Mother For Seizing Firearms Found Inside His Bag

A 25-year-old man, Ididiong James, has landed in trouble in Kano State for allegedly battering his mother for refusing to handover a Barreta pistol with 8 ammunition she discovered in his bag. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the information leaked as to why James was beating his biological mother and the matter was reported to the Police. He was later arrested over his conduct.
The incident happened in Panshekara Quarters area of the State, where they reside.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed that the suspect brutally assaulted his mother for refusing to handover a Barreta pistol with 8 ammunition, which she discovered in his bag.
According to the PPRO, the suspect fled the scene when officers arrived after receiving a distress call.
“The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Ididiong James, for allegedly attacking his mother and possessing a Barreta pistol with 8 rounds of ammunition,” the statement read.
“On 25th January, 2026, at about 7:30pm, Police Officers attached to Panshekara Division, Kano, responded to a distress call and found that James was beating his mother at their residence in Panshekara Quarters, Kano.”
“The suspect fled the scene upon arrival, but his mother handed over the pistol and ammunition, stating that she had discovered the items in her son’s bag and refused to give it to him, leading to the violent attack.”
“She also expressed concern over her son’s changed behavior since his return from a New Year celebration.
“The suspect was subsequently arrested and is currently in Police custody.”
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the mother for her courage and urged parents to be vigilant.
“The actions of this mother are commendable, and we appreciate her bravery in standing up against her son’s violent behavior,” CP Bakori said.
“We also caution parents to monitor their children’s activities and report any suspicious behaviour to the authorities.”
