Three Police officers, ASP Ogunleye Taiwo, Inspector Adejoh Esther and Inspector Omozuafo Juliet, had a nasty experience performing their lawful duties while going to effect arrest in Ado Ekiti, Ondo State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the officers were mercilessly battered and were rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment by two men, Awolusi Babatunde, 45, and Awolusi Oluwaseun, 23, who they intended to arrest over criminal allegations.
However, the Police mobilized, arrested the suspects and charged them before the Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, where the Court ordered their remand at the Correctional Centre over their alleged involvement in an assault on Police officers and two residents.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail to the third defendant, Awolusi Mary, 42, in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum while the matter was adjourned till 20th February, 2026, for further hearing.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants, who reside at Gloryland Avenue, Ajebamidele, Ado-Ekiti, allegedly committed the offences on 11th February, 2026, at about 10:00 a.m.
According to the prosecution, the trio conspired to unlawfully assault ASP Ogunleye Taiwo, W/Insp. Adejoh Esther and W/Insp. Omozuafo Juliet while they were in uniform and carrying out their lawful duties.
ASP Oriyomi further alleged that Awolusi Oluwaseun committed a felony by causing grievous harm to one Agunbiade Kehinde, whom he allegedly cut on the back with a razor blade.
The defendants were also accused of assaulting Agunbiade Precious and Agunbiade Kehinde.
The prosecutor stated that the offences contravened Sections 421, 184 and 187 of the Ekiti State Criminal Law, 2021.
Counsel to the defendants, Barrister Akinwumi Tumise, had urged the court to grant his clients bail, assuring that they would not abscond.
However, the Chief Magistrate ordered that Babatunde and Oluwaseun be remanded at the Ado-Ekiti correctional centre until the next hearing date.
The defendants may likely be imprisoned for the alleged offence if found guilty before the Court for the alleged offences.
