PDP Crisis Deepens As Group Drags Wike, Accuses Osun Factional Chairman of Backing Rival Party Candidate

Fresh cracks have emerged within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State as a pressure group within the party has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to urgently rein in a factional Chairman accused of openly working against the party’s interest ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The call was made by the Reset Group of the Osun PDP in a strongly worded statement released on Sunday in Osogbo and signed by its Secretary, Adeyeye Olugbenga.
In the statement, the Group accused embattled factional chairman Sunday Bisi of allegedly “commercialising” the party by endorsing the governorship candidate of the Accord Party for the 2026 election.
The Group said the alleged endorsement was not only shocking but also deeply embarrassing for the PDP, especially at a time the party is still challenging its exclusion from the electoral process in court.
“A man cannot be parading himself as a party chairman and at the same time endorsing another party’s candidate for an election his supposed party is still in court contesting its exclusion,” Olugbenga said.
The group described the development as a clear betrayal of the party and its members in the state.
According to the statement, the actions of the factional chairman have further deepened the crisis within the party and raised serious questions about his loyalty to the PDP.
Olugbenga alleged that Bisi was already positioning himself politically within the opposition camp ahead of the election.
“We have credible information that Sunday Bisi is lobbying to be the Director-General for the Accord Party candidate in the forthcoming election,” he said.
The Reset Group questioned how Bisi could still claim to lead the PDP in Osun while allegedly seeking a key campaign role for a rival political platform.
“How can Sunday Bisi be interested in being the Director General of the Adeleke campaign team while he still lays claim to the chairmanship of the PDP?” the statement queried.
The group warned that such actions could severely damage the party’s credibility if left unchecked.
It therefore called on Wike, whom it described as the political leader under whose faction Bisi now operates, to immediately intervene in the matter.
“We are calling on the leadership where Sunday Bisi has now pitched his tent, particularly the Wike camp, to call him to order or ensure he stops parading himself as the PDP chairman in Osun State,” Olugbenga said.
The group further criticised what it described as Bisi’s shifting political allegiance, accusing him of pursuing personal ambition at the expense of the party.
“How else do we describe shame and greed, if not for a man who attended the convention in Ibadan but hurried to Abuja to solidarise with Wike’s faction?” the statement added.
The crisis comes amid deepening divisions within the PDP nationally, where rival blocs loyal to different power centres continue to battle for control of the party structure.
Political observers say the latest accusations in Osun could further complicate the party’s preparations for the 2026 governorship race if the leadership fails to resolve the dispute quickly.
