Man, 30, Arraigned For Belonging To Proscribed Eiye Confraternity

A 30-year old man, Michael Ojo, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly belonging to the proscribed Eiye Confraternity, which had been banned by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect was arrested on the 18th January, 2026, at about 1300hrs at Iju Ishaga area of Lagos, by the operatives of Tactical Team led by SP Banti Adamu during a routine monitoring.
The charges read:
“That you, Michael Ojo, ‘m’ and others now at large on the 18th January, 2026 at about 1300hrs at Iju Ishaga area of Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: unlawful society and conduct likely to cause breach of the peace and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Michael Ojo ‘m’ and others at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did belong to Eiye Confraternity, which has been proscribed by Law as unlawful society and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 2(3)(a)(b)(c) (d) of Unlawful Societies Prohibition and Cultism Law of Lagos State Law 2021.”
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
