A 22-year old man, Bilyaminu Mohammed, has landed in trouble for allegedly wearing a Nigerian Military camouflage uniform and presenting himself as a member of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect was accosted by the operatives from Police Tactical team of the Lagos State Command who discovered that he was fake, subsequently arrested and detained him for further investigation.
The incident happened on 11th February, 2026, at Agege area of Lagos.
While being interrogated, the Police discovered that he was not enrolled in the Nigerian Army despite the fact that he presented himself as a Military officer when he was accosted.
The Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for impersonation, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Bilyaminu Mohammed ‘m’ on the 11th day of February, 2026, at about 2200hrs, at Agege area of Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did wear Nigerian Military camouflage uniform with intent to present yourself as a member of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 77(a)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
