Man, 32, Swindles Woman Of N6.8m Under False Pretence

A 32-year old man, Kolawole Victor Waris, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a woman, Mrs. Adebosin Faith, of the sum of N6.8m under false pretence.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on the 5th day of February 2026, at about 1130hrs at Pepsi-Cola Company Ikeja, Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect accosted the complainant at the company and told her that he had a truck of Pepsi, which he wanted to sell to her at the company. They agreed on the amount and she paid.
After the complainant made the payment, the suspect bolted away with the money and disconnected every communication he had with the complainant.
The matter was reported to the Commissioner of Police Monitoring Unit at the State Command. The operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the suspect and detained him at the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
“That you, Kolawole Victor Waris ‘m’ and others at large on the 5th day of February 2026 at about 1130hrs at Pepsi -Cola Company, Ikeja, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire together to commit felony to wit: obtaining money by false pretence and stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Kolawole Victor Waris ‘m’ and others at large on the same date and time in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did obtain the sum of Six Million, Eight Hundred and Thirty Seven Thousand Six Hundred Naira (N6,837,600.00) only from one Mrs. Adebosin Faith by false pretence to sell one truck of Pepsi to her, a presentation you know to be false and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 314 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you, Kolawole Victor Waris ‘m’ and others at large on the same date and time in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did steal the sum of Six Million, Eight Hundred and Thirty Seven Thousand Six Hundred Naira (N6,837,600.00) only, property of one Mrs. Adebosin Faith ‘f’ and thereby committed and offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
