The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) has announced a new date for the Tunde Delu Abeokuta Rugby Sevens Cup 2026.

The tournament, now in its third edition, has been moved from its initial schedule of April 23–25 to June 2026, with the exact date to be confirmed.

According to the federation, the adjustment follows internal consultations and aligns with plans to deliver a more impactful, well-structured competition, while also creating room for increased team participation and broader international representation.

Speaking on the development, the sponsor of the tournament and Chief Operating Officer of the NRFF, Hon. Tunde Delu, said the decision was reached after engaging key stakeholders.

“Following consultations and considering the growing profile of the sport, as well as the need to accommodate more teams and enhance the tournament’s international appeal, we have decided to move the competition to June. The specific date and further details will be communicated after final consultations with participating teams and partners,” he said.

He added that the rescheduling is aimed at improving the overall quality of the event.

“This adjustment will allow us deliver a bigger, better organised, and more competitive tournament, ensuring an enhanced experience for all teams and stakeholders.”

The federation expressed regret over any inconvenience caused and appealed for understanding as preparations continue.

The Abeokuta Rugby Sevens Cup is in its third season, with Cowrie FC emerging champions in the last edition after a 26–21 victory over Racing RFC of Lagos.
