Youth Party Holds Nationwide Ward, LGA Congresses in Peaceful Internal Elections

Posted on May 19, 2026

The Youth Party has successfully conducted its Ward and Local Government Area (LGA) congresses across Nigeria, describing the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and free of violence.

In a statement issued by its Spokesperson, Solomon Oyekunle, on Saturday, May 16, 2026, the party said members participated in congresses held simultaneously across 26 states, including Borno, Abia, Oyo, Imo, and Kogi, among others, to elect their ward and LGA leaders.

It said the exercise was orderly and competitive, with members voting freely to determine those who will lead the party at the grassroots level.

The party further stated that the process was conducted without violence, intimidation, or imposition of candidates, contrasting its internal elections with what it described as recurring disputes in other political parties.

According to the statement, the congresses reflect the party’s commitment to internal democracy, where leadership positions are decided by members through voting rather than political patronage or financial influence.

It added that the completion of the ward and LGA congresses marks a key step ahead of its planned states congresses and national convention, as it builds its structures toward the 2027 general elections.

The party also called on more Nigerians to engage with its platform, saying the exercise demonstrates that political participation can be peaceful, inclusive, and transparent.

The Youth Party said it remains focused on expanding its nationwide structures as it prepares for upcoming electoral activities.
