Assistant Inspector General of Police Simon Udofia Akpanudom, who oversees the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos, has directed the removal of illegal motor parks, street trading, and other environmental nuisances around the Force Headquarters, particularly at the main gate.

According to a police source who spoke with our Correspondent, the action was taken to strengthen security and protect property at the Force Headquarters in line with directives from the Inspector General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu.

The source said that shortly after assuming office a few months ago, AIG Akpanudom observed that buses loading passengers, street traders, and beggars had occupied spaces around the Force Headquarters, including areas near the Kam Salem Gate.

He ordered officers to clear the obstructions and maintain continuous monitoring of the area for security purposes.

Since the enforcement began, the environment around the headquarters has been described as clearer, with improved traffic flow.

Motorists and road users in the area have noted the change.

Residents of Moloney and other motorists have commended AIG Akpanudom for addressing an issue that had persisted for some time. They also acknowledged the IGP for the posting.

Mr. Lucky Okosun, a resident of Moloney, said he welcomed the cleanup given current security concerns. He appealed for sustained order around the headquarters.

Okosun also called for the redeployment of an officer he alleged was encouraging illegal activities in the area, stating that the officer had overstayed at the location.

A visit to the Force Headquarters on Monday found the area free of buses loading passengers and street trading, with traffic moving without obstruction.

Efforts to speak with AIG Akpanudom were unsuccessful as he was reported to be in a meeting with senior officers.
