Two Men Docked Over Alleged Cultism In Lagos

Two men, Ganiyu Giwa and Adeleke Ayomide, were on Friday arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba over alleged conspiracy and membership of an unlawful society.
Ganiyu Giwa is 26 years old while Adeleke Ayomide is 24 years old. They appeared before the court on a charge brought by the Commissioner of Police.
The prosecution alleged that the defendants and others now at large conspired among themselves on April 20, 2026 at about 6:00 PM at Lagos Island area of Lagos to commit felony.
According to the charge sheet, the alleged conspiracy was for the purpose of operating as an unlawful society within Lagos State. The offence was said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
In the second count, the prosecution told the court that the defendants were members of Aiye Confraternity. The group was described as a proscribed organization under the Lagos State Law.
The second count stated that belonging to Aiye Confraternity is an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 2(3)(a)(b)(c)(d) of the Unlawful Societies Prohibition and Cultism Law of Lagos State, 2021.
The case was presented by SP Banti Adamu of the Command Tactical Squad One, State Headquarters, Ikeja. The prosecutor who announced appearance in court was SUPOL Ile Anyon.
The Investigating Police Officer on the case was listed as Inspector Bakare Bamidele.The complainant in the matter was the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove the allegations.
The presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted the defendants bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The magistrate granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000. The case was adjourned for further hearing and possible continuation of trial.
The defendants were remanded in custody at the Correctional Center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction. The Police said investigation is ongoing to apprehend other suspects said to be at large in connection with the case.
