A 41-year-old man, Muhammed Adeyemi, has been arraigned before the Ojo Magisterial District Court in Lagos State for allegedly threatening to kill his father over a property dispute.
The defendant was arraigned on Charge No: 27/1/159/20 before Magistrate L.K.J Layeni at the Ojo Magistrate Court on September 4, 2026.
The charge was filed by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, and prosecuted by SP Uche Simon.
According to the charge sheet presented before the court, the first count alleged that on or before September 3, 2026, at about 07:30 hours, at a location opposite the military barracks in Ojo, the defendant allegedly threatened the life of his biological father.
The prosecution alleged that the defendant threatened that he was going to kill his father by all possible means and take over his properties. The alleged threat to life is an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 56 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The second count alleged that on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district, the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by allegedly smoking weed suspected to be Indian hemp in public, day and night, thereby exposing the lives of minors to moral danger.
The prosecution stated that the offence of breach of peace is contrary to and punishable under Section 168(d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
When the two-count charge was read to him, the defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Following his not guilty plea, his counsel applied for bail on his behalf, urging the court to grant him bail on liberal terms and assuring the court that the defendant would not jump bail and would be available for his trial.
The prosecutor, SP Uche Simon, told the court that he was not opposing bail, but requested the court to impose stringent conditions that would ensure the defendant appears in court for his trial and does not interfere with the case.
In her ruling, Magistrate L.K.J Layeni granted bail to the defendant and ordered that his residential address be verified by the Police.
The magistrate also ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody at the Correctional Center pending the verification of his address and the perfection of his bail conditions.
The case was subsequently adjourned  for further hearing.
The Investigating Police Officer in charge of the case was SP Olajuwon Adefemi of Onireke Police Station, while the Divisional Police Officer of Onireke Division is CSP Gwu Jeremiah.
It should be noted that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a Court of competent jurisdiction.
