Emmanuel Attah, former team coordinator of the Super Eagles has appealed to ever critical footballing loving Nigerians not to use the friendly games to judge the Super Eagles ahead of the world Cup in Russia.
The Super Eagles will file out to the pitch to play against Croatia in the opening game of Group D, sadly the poor results recorded by the team in the previous World Cup international friendly matches have made millions of football fans in Nigeria to develop a general apathy towards the team, but Attah is of the firm opinion that the team will perform very well at the football mundial.
“To be sincere , I strongly believe that the players will not disappoint Nigerians at the World Cup proper. Nigerians should not use the friendly matches to judge the team and I want to believe that if we watch the team critically, especially in the second half against Czech Republic , we can see that we have a team in place, ” Attah said in an exclusive chat with PM EXPRESS in Abuja.
“Friendly matches are meant for assessment , for corrections and it was very obvious that the players were playing safe . They all want to play at the World Cup,” he added.
“The game between Nigeria and Czech was very physical . The Czechs were more physical . The team had earlier lost to Austria 4-0 and they wanted to prove a point in the game as if it was a cup final to them.
“Funny enough , the Czechs are not going to the World Cup, but Nigeria will be there , so the players were very careful. I want to believe that the Super Eagles will definitely do well in Russia. So, Nigerians should calm down and support the team,” he said.
