The Court of Appeal, Abuja division has granted the motion for leave filed by Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 26 November governorship election in Ondo State, to challenge the judgement of Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

Abang had ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to recognise Jimoh Ibrahim as candidate of the party.

The two candidates belong to the two factions of the PDP. While Eyitayo belongs to the Ahmed Makarfi faction of the party, Ibrahim belongs to the Modu Sheriff faction. The two factions conducted the party’s primaries through which the two candidates emerged.
The contest for the party’s authentic standard bearer led to litigation that has now culminated in the Appeal Court ruling.

Meanwhile, the standard bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election, Rotimi Akeredolu, has flagged of his campaign.

During the campaign in Akure, the Ondo State capital attended by a massive crowd, he was handed the party’s flag by the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Oyegun. Other party chieftains also took part in the campaign where Akerodolu promised to create massive employment for the youths of the state.
