Peace And Security Will Be My Priority In Abia – Dr Uche Ogah

GREAT IMO JONATHAN

Nigerian business mogul and the All Progressives Congress, APC, gubernatorial aspirant in Abia State, Dr Uche Ogah, said that peace and security in the state will be given priority attention under his leadership.

He said, “Basically, for there to be effective governance, there must structure, law and order, then establishment and progress. Without this foundation it will be difficult to transform Abia State”.

Hence, he said that the aforementioned will be the fulcrum of his engagement in governance.

“To the extent of our development as a state and as a nation, the structure of governance is understood. But there is still the need for improved backend administrative infrastructure or structure in Abia State that will accelerate speed of delivery of good governance, which only individuals in the mould of Dr Uche Ogah with managerial competence can deliver”

Reference to that background, Dr Uche Ogah believes that without peace and security, law and order, Abia will not take its pride of place in the comity of states in Nigeria.

Dr Uche Ogah appreciates the efforts so far made by all former governors and the current administration as it relates to security in Abia State. But going forward, Dr Uche Ogah is offering to overhaul the security architecture of the state and provide an integrated security infrastructure that will be water-tight, effective, swift, seamless and yet observes the rules of civil engagement. Such that there is reduced contact with civil the populace but interfaces with community leadership, eliminating brutality but yet commanding effective presence across the length and breadth of the state.

Here are the things Dr Uche Ogah will like to see in Abia State in terms of security if given the opportunity to lead:

The government of Abia State under Dr Uche Ogah will reinterpret our current security threat environment and accordingly redesign the security initiative and response system. Dr Uche Ogah believes that the present species and levels of threats in Nigeria and Abia State cannot be met with existing response formats as we can all see. Though there is security in the state, yet crime is still prevalent as the current deputy governor rightly noted recently. It is still noticeable that our existing security architecture much encourages brute force and in some cases the dehumanization of Abia indigenes by operatives. We have failed to foresee those changes that are needed.

Nigeria (Abia inclusive) is currently dealing with a classical security situation that should have been long foreseen by our security policy makers but somehow, if they did, they did not act. As it has been noted, “the first wave of the fallout of that situation has passed and we are now experiencing the wake, that may be a terrible wake”

To this effect, Dr Uche Ogah’s administration will seek to establish a Special Forces Unit of the police, a bit similar to what we have in Lagos but slightly different. They will have specific training for responding to full military situations within a civilian environment and they will be able to do so with speed, precision and uncommon effectiveness. They will be armed with armoured vehicles as we have in Lagos and agile anti ballistic vehicles with up to date electronic capabilities to intercept, distort and jam comms. They will be able to deploy robotic weapons in confined spaces and shoot to kill criminals in a populated environment with minimal collateral losses. They will all have sniping abilities and the training of a standard SEAL. The unit will have a small air force comprising of at least 3 helicopters covering the 3 senatorial zones of Abia State and a dozen hexapodal drones as well as mini subs. They will be commanded by a special unit created in the Abia State police Command. It will have an elaborate intelligence gathering system with operatives drawn among even religious leaders, house wives, stewards and market women.

Don’t think this is extraordinary unless you don’t understand the larger implication of what is happening up north and now heading towards the old Midwest. You need to also know that the present security challenge in the country is sponsored and backed by both local and foreign interests who are determined and desperate. They are here and dug in for the long term and our preparation must be an inch above their expectations.

Especially as we are yet to experience much of what is happening up north and in the absence of state police, we can within the existing constitutional framework create a security architecture that solves civil challenges and provides overriding protection for Abia people amidst porous interstate boundaries and state boarder community clashes.

It is no rocket science, every community, town and street in Abia State can be protected through effective security architecture that places premium on citizens right, that is accountable to the people, that is not only for the privileged class in Abia State and that is swift and effective.

Dr Uche Ogah knows what to do.
