The annual Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championships, which has been rebranded and christened Lagos Open International Tennis Championships will hold this year from Saturday 29th September to Saturday 13th October at Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan.
PM EXPRESS reports that this year’s competition will be the 18th edition.
The tournament is made up of two Futures, the F5 and the F6, while players will compete in four events- Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Singles and Women’s Doubles.
The Tournament Director, Prince Wale Oladunjoye said at a world press conference to announce the rebranding of the Governor’s Cup on Tuesday that the total prize money as usual is $100, 000, adding that every player that makes it into the main draw will have a share in the prize money.

According to him, details of the sharing formula as approved by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) can be found in the tournament brochure and the website. Accommodation for players in the main draw is at the official Tournament Hotel, the prestigious Eko Hotel & Suites.
Oladunjoye said the Local Organising Committee (LOC) grateful to the management of the hotel for giving the Lagos Open subsidised rates for their rooms. He appreciated all their numerous sponsors who are still with the competition today, notably LASACO Assurance Plc, Spinlet, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Lagos Internal Revenue Services (LIRS), Eko Hotels and Suites, Xpression Hair Products, CCECC, Naston Engineering, Lagos State Signage Advertisement Agency (LASAA).
He also thanked the Nigeria Tennis Federation to whom this tournament actually belongs, the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club for the unalloyed support throughout the 18 years since the tournament began in Lagos.
