Part III: Sports Development (Imo Grassroot Sports Management [IMGRASPOM]).

 I had earlier described Ugwumba Uche Nwosu as an ACTIVATOR. His choice as the next Governor of Imo State stems from a clear understanding of the developmental map of the State and determination to increase the tempo of current efforts.

The Rescue Mission Government has considerably improved sporting facilities around the State, though we are not yet at the break-even point in this regard. But, we have gone far beyond teething problems arising from total absence. For instance, while Imo State lays claim to a Dan Anyiam Stadium and the other at Okigwe, most sister States in the Southeast are still priding in simple playgrounds that may not qualify as good venues for hosting a Secondary School “Inter-house sports competition”.

Ugwumba Uche Nwosu is coming with a radical Sports Development program that will be targeted at teenagers and youths in the rural and urban centres. Particular attention shall be paid to resuscitating and renewing community/grassroot Sports festivals through Schools and the CGCs.

*IMGRASPOM* shall, amongst others, focus on the following areas;

– Promote comprehensive youth sports activities across the State.

– Identify career opportunities for young sports talents in the State across games (Track and field, football, Basket ball, Swimming, Lawn and Table Tennis etc.)

– Equip and fund Sports centres in all 27 LGAs.

– Manage and Host Annual Imo Sports Festival across games.

The Ugwumba Uche Nwosu Sports program will collaborate with Local and International stakeholders in the sporting industry in revamping the State Sports Agencies for optimum functioning.

The target of *IMGRASPOM* will be to make Imo State the nursery-bed for breeding Sports talents that will dominate both the local and international scene. The vicarious outcome of this will be phenomenal. It will span from crime reduction to employment generation within our bulging youth population.

I will continue to sneak out titbits of the Uche Nwosu proposed plan and working document. Fortunately, they are not just novel and brilliant,  but also very practicable.

Uche has Come to Work.
