Man Sent To Prison For Battering Policeman

A police corporal attached to Ikotun division, Enigbokan Kayode, has suffered injuries after he was battered by a suspect he went to arrest in Lagos State, Nigeria.

The 35-year old suspect, John Ejiro, has been arrested and charged with assault before a Lagos Magistrates’ court.
The incident happened at Ikotun area of Lagos.

Edo state-born Ejiro resisted arrest when Corporal Kayode went to invite him for allegedly committing an undisclosed offence.

Instead of accompanying Kayode to the station, he told him that he was not going anywhere.

When Kayode wanted to effect his arrest, he grabbed him, tore his clothes and rained fist blows on the cop who fell down following the impact of the blows.

Kayode was rescued by people at the scene of the attack.

After he recovered from the blows he went to the station and reported what happened to him.

The DPO mobilized other officers and went after Ejiro and arrested him.

He was charged to court on a three-count of felony, assault and wilful damage under the Criminal Code.

He pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr A. A. Fashola granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail.

The matter was adjourned till 19 October, 2016.
