St Finbarr’s College Launch Leadership Essay Contest To Mark Anniversary

Posted on September 26, 2019

In a bid to tackle the dwindling culture of writing in Nigeria, the 1994 class of the St Finbarr’s college ahead of their 25th year anniversary have launched an essay competition for students of the school with prizes highlighted for the winners.

Entries into the competition which is opened to junior and senior secondary students will close on October 2, 2019.

The topic of the Essay Competition is: “Identify a common Nigerian problem/challenge and describe how you wish to solve it with the knowledge/skills you acquire when you grow up?”

The objective of the exercise is to impact the next generation of youths by changing their mindset from a “what do you want to become when you grow up” mentality to a “what challenges or problem would I like to solve when I grow up” mindset.

All essay entries or submissions must be no more than three-pages (A4 paper size) and sent to the official email of the class of 94 at info@sfc94oldboys.com and must be received on or before October 2.

The winning essay will go home with the sum of N50,000 while the first runner up wins N25, 000 and the second runner up winning N20, 000.

A five-man review panel consisting of Alhaji Lateef Ajelero, Omolaye Akinyemi, Felix Ogwezi, Pastor Idris Akeem and Anthony Obijeih have been set up to select the best essays.

President of the association, Tosin Adeniji, insists that the reason for setting up the competition was to create a long-lasting writing culture of writing.

“It is always good to have a long-lasting legacy and that is what we are trying to do with the 25th year of our anniversary. It is just a way to inculcating a culture into the hearts of the young ones that they need to have a positive mindset about certain things,” he said.

Project coordinator, Jacob Eneh added; “This is just the first of what we have planned for the school, we will also appreciate our teachers who inculcated in us values that have made us who we are today and thank them for their kind words and guidance.”
