Saturday, 18 January, 2020 would remain unforgettable for Timothy Emmanuel and Olusegun Balogun as thugs allegedly acting on the promptings of a middle-aged man, Oluwo Shakiru Ayoola mauled and matcheted them over failure to evacuate premises located at Adepitan Close, Ojota.
It was gathered that this attack was second in its series. The previous being August, 2019 when Shakiru, one of the children of Chief Oluwo Yisa Kadiri, the original owner of the disputed bungalow, invaded the house to beat and destroy their property. According to them, they would not have complied with such “quit order” as their occupational rights were conferred by a new owner.
According to a family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the crisis over the property has been lingering even before the demise of Chief Oluwo Yisa Kadiri, but only took lethal dimensions after all entreaties and truce brokered by the family fell on deaf ears.
Meanwhile, the injured tenants have been admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of an undisclosed hospital in the neighbourhood. Efforts to speak with the owner proved unsuccessful.
The culprit, together with five of his cohorts, has been arrested by the police for routine interrogation.
It was gathered that crisis over the said bequest began sometime August 2014 when a 83-year-old Alhaja Oluwo Ashabi (Nee Salisu) the fourth and last wife wanted to take possession of the bungalow building allegedly bequeathed her by Chief Oluwo, her deceased husband.
Enfant terrible Shakiru, a purported cultist who is the son of third wife and the 8th child in a family of 10, reportedly mobilized thugs to attack his octogenarian step-mother in her residence, thereby leaving the aged woman severely injured.
The octogenarian was said to have died few months after owing to injuries sustained from the fatal attack.
