President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed ex-Nigeria international, Daniel Amokachi, Nigeria’s football ambassador.

Presidential spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu, said in a statement on Tuesday that Amokachi, a former Super Eagles assistant coach, would assist the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to scout for talents, be part of processes to revive the country’s football development, as well as mentor young sportsmen and women.

The role is largely ceremonial, Shehu said.

Amokachi, a member of the 1994 Super Eagles’ team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia, was also part of the Nigerian Olympic football team that won gold at the 1996 edition.

The footballer won the FA Cup with Everton in 1995. He has coached Nasarawa United and Eyimba FC of Aba.
