Amid Pomp, 5th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon Holds (PHOTOS)

The 5th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon was held on Saturday with the focus of the world beaming on Lagos, the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria.

It was not a surprise that the North Africans were at their best making the Top 10 of both the men and women races at the end of which Kenyan runners stealing the show.

Thirty-one-year -old Kenya’s David Barmasai Tumo breast the tape at a time of 2:10:21 at the Eko Atlantic on Lagos Island, while his compatriot Sharon Cherop emerged first female athlete to breast the tape in a time of 2:31:38.

The Chief host, Governor Babajide Sanwo -Olu, the Deputy Governor, Femi Hamzat, other members of the State Executive Council, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai, Access Bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Herbert Wigwe, Chairman of Lagos State Sports Council, Sola Aiyepeku and other important dignitaries were part of the marathon race which has attained a Silver Label status within four years of existence.
