Nigeria midfielder, Alex Iwobi has described the contract extension giving to the manager of the Super Eagles; Gernot Rohr by his employer, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), as a big plus for the senior national team

.Iwobi said that he was happy that the German coach finally agreed another two years contract extension with Nigeria, adding that the Eagles will be better for it.

Though it came with stringent condition, Rohr agreed to continue his job with the Super Eagles who he took to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt after the team had failed to qualify for two consecutive AFCON tournaments. He also qualified the Super Eagles for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, crashing out in the group stage.

“I am excited and over the moon that our coach has agreed to continue doing his good work with the Super Eagles.

“It is a welcome development that Coach Rohr because he has given so much to build this young team and the future is very bright and it was only appropriate that the NFF offered him the opportunity to continue his work, which would benefit the country because he knows the players inside out and will continue from where he stopped before the Coronavirus pandemic broke out”, Iwobi said.

The President of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick has revealed the news of the contract extension on his Twitter handle on Wednesday saying, “I’m happy to announce that the @thenff and Coach Gernot Rohr have concluded all contractual discussions and he will stay on as Coach of the Super Eagles. We have always had confidence in his abilities and we are confident that the national team can only go higher from here.

“With the distraction of the contract talks out of the way now, we can now face our football on the pitch, totally. Again, I never lost confidence in Gernot Rohr’s ability to take our football forward and I’m convinced our football will only get better from here on.

“Hopefully, our lives will get back to normal soon and these trying times will be behind us.”
