Man Burgles, Steals Deeper Life Church N1.3mn Property in Lagos

A church supposed to be a sacred place but it was not so for a 47-year old, Chinedu Onyema who burgled a Deeper Life Church and carted away property worth over N1.3 million and sold it at give away price in Lagos.
The incident happened at the church branch at 40 Segun Awolowo Street in Ejigbo, a suburb of Lagos.
Onyema has been arrested and charged before a Lagos court with burglary and stealing under the Criminal Code.
According to police, Onyema and others now at large, went into the church in the early morning at about 2 am and broke the church doors locks searching for money which they did not found any.
The suspects then decided to loose the church’s wall fans, other electronics and electrical appliances and other valuable items found inside the church and escaped.
Among the items stolen include the ceiling fans, two large plasma televisions, musical equipment among others totaling over N1.3million.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that when the workers arrived the church in the morning, they discovered that the church doors were open and on moving inside they discovered that all the church valuables had been stolen.
The matter was reported to the police and on a tip off, one of the suspects, Onyema was later apprehended and was taken to the station.
At the station, Onyema reportedly confessed among those involved in breaking into and stealing the church property.
When the police asked him about the items to recover it, he claimed they have sold it and shared the money among his gang and did not know the address of the buyers.
Onyema was charged before Ikeja Magistrate’s court where he pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka granted Onyema bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 27 March 2017.
