This may not be the best of times for the former president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State, Chief Oliver Akubueze, over his alleged sponsorship of the #EndSARS protest, which later turned violent in the state.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Chief Akubueze may have gone into hiding after information linked him with the protest and he was said to be wanted by the Police authorities to explain his roles.
It was gathered that Akubueze was said to be highly involved in the #EndSARS protest to the extent he was said to have sponsored protesters throughout the period, which he denied when contacted.
When Akubueze was contacted, he confirmed that he was wrongly accused of sponsoring the #EndSARS protest and has been subjected to all manners of intimidation, harassment and assaults.
“I was wrongly accused as one of the sponsors of the protest and since then, it has been embarrassments, threat to life and all manner of assaults. My bank accounts have been blocked etc.”
“I am President Emeritus of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State 2009 – 2013 and the current Chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State Council of Elders.”
It was not certain yet if Chief Akubueze has been let off the hook over the #EndSARS protest sponsorship but certainly, he may not be safe for now as the Police authorities have vowed to deal with those who aided and sponsored the protest, which led to violence.
The Police had earlier picked some people suspected to have sponsored the protest and their bank accounts were frozen while some were prosecuted for criminal offences in various States.
