We Wear Navy Uniform To Extort Money -Suspect

A 20-year old man who has been parading himself as a Naval officer, Ernest Afemkhe has confessed that he was not a member of Nigerian Navy rather he wears the uniform to extort money from people in Lagos.
Edo State-born suspect and two other persons now at large reportedly wore Naval uniform and moved on the road and disturbing road users in order to extort them.
They were arrested at Double Powerline along Ejigbo-Ikotun road while molesting motorists and stealing from them.
One of the victims who they had attacked and stole his phone contacted the police at Ejigbo division who went to the spot and arrested Afemkhe, while two of his accomplices fled.
When he was taken to the station, Afemkhe confessed that he wore the Naval uniform while he was never a member of the Nigerian Navy.
He said they were using the uniform to extort money from unsuspecting people and they did not know it was an offence.
On how he got the uniform, he said he was a member of Sea Scout, a paramilitary who have the same colour of uniform with the Navy.
He was brought to Ejigbo Magistrate’s court where he was arraigned for impersonation, stealing under the Criminal Code.
He pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J.O.E Adeyemi granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 27 April 2017.
