Sports Festival Postponement Forces Team Lagos To Halt Closed Camping, Still Target 100 Gold In Edo

If the National Sports Festival scheduled for Edo State were to be held as planned this February, there is no doubt that Team Lagos would have been made their athletes ready for the games because in the last couples of days, the management of Lagos State Sports Commission had ensured that the athletes were given all resources to undergo series of last minutes training for the festival at Anglican House Bariga, Lagos.


Trust what the management of the Commission put in place for the camping, which was held from Saturday 6th to Wednesday 10th February 2021,P.M. EXPRESS reports that the closed camping was intensive and highly structured. With all protocols of COVID-19 observed, the athletes were in high spirit in readiness for the earlier scheduled dates of the festival.

The announcement of the postponement of the Sports Festival, however, put to an abruptly end the weeklong closed camping on Wednesday..

The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has postponed the games to April 8 – 22, 2021.


While in Camp, Team Lagos athletes and coaches  disclosed that they were in high spirits in preparation for the National Sports Festival in Edo State and are always very proud to represent Lagos State.
Lagos handball male player, Yayah Owolabi  stated that he is very happy to represent Lagos State, adding that as a professional sportsman, someone must be ready to take up the task anytime being called upon. 


“My main target at the National Sports Festival is definitely, nothing but gold medals,” he said.


The Head Coach, Badminton, Maria Omoneyin, stated that  training has always been the priority of the Coaching crew and the players despite the postponements of the sports festival.


Speaking during visitation to the camp, the Executive Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Sola Aiyepeku expressed optimism that Team Lagos would win100 gold medals at the Games. 


“We know some of our advantages and we have enough athletes full of experience to take up the task,” said Aiyepeku.


Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor on Sports, Anthony Adeboye, disclosed that Lagos is always prepared anytime and the athletes are responding excellently well. 


He added that Lagos State parades seasoned sports administrators at the helm of affairs who engage young talented athletes and believe in the younger generation.
