Sports Ministry In Dilemma Over Host Of 2022 Sports Festival

The Ministry of Sports and Youth Development is divided which state to host the next edition of the National Sports Festival (NSF).


The next edition of the festival is billed for next year as the ongoing edition in Benin, Edo State was billed to have been hosted last year.


It was gathered that the battle for the hosting right is keenly been contested between Kaduna and Oyo States.


The two states bid for the hosting right here in Benin.


While Kaduna hosted the festival first in 1977 which was the third edition , it hosted again in 2009, Oyo state has only hosted once in 1979 tagged “Oluyole ” 79″.


Both states have however presented their proposals for the hosting with the promise to complete renovation of ongoing projects in their sates.


In a chat with Chairman of Oyo State Council of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Niyi Alebiosu, he assured that all ongoing projects in the state will be completed before the end of the second quarter of the year.
“We are ready to host the next NSF as we have all it takes to host.


“With the support of our sporting Livingston governor Seyi Makinde, we will not disappoint,” said Alebiosu.


It is however not certain whether the host of the next edition will be announced at the closing ceremony of the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival in Edo State. The competition ends on Wednesday.
