Police operatives from the Enugu State Command attached to 9th Mile Police Division, have arrested a 29-year old housewife, Mrs. Nnenna Egwuagu, for allegedly administering poisonous substance suspected to be Sniper insecticide on her 3-year old stepson, Wisdom Egwuagu, thereby causing his sudden death.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Umulumgbe in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, where they reside.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, who spoke on behalf of the Commissioner of Police and confirmed that the suspect was in Police custody.
He said that the lady’s husband and father of the deceased child, Justine Egwuagu, reported the incident to the Police alleging that the unusual actions of the suspect towards the child caused his death.
“Preliminary investigation shows that the suspect confessed to having administered the noxious substance, suspected to be that of Sniper insecticide, on the child. She claimed that her action was due to her husband’s inability to take care of her and their daughter and that she wanted the child to become sick so that her husband could spend money to treat him.”
ASP Ndukwe said that the child was confirmed dead at the hospital and his corpse deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.
Meanwhile, the container of the noxious substance and syringe, which she used in administering the substance to the child, have been recovered as exhibit while further thorough investigation into the case is ongoing at the State CID, Enugu and the suspect will be charged before Court after the conclusion of investigation.
To this end, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu, while describing the act as callous and unfortunate, has advised couples to truly love each other, live peaceably no matter the circumstance and use every legal or morally acceptable means to resolve their differences.
