After Medal Outings At Edo 2020, Lagos Gymnastics, Weightlifting Associations Reward Athletes, Coaches

For every good work done, there is always reward for it. That is the reason the boards of Lagos State Gymnastics Association and Lagos State Weightlifting Association decided to show appreciation for jobs well done when they separately rewarded their athletes who won various medals at the 20th National Sports Festival tagged “Edo 2020”. The coaches and officials were not left out

At the end of the Games, Team Lagos were adjudged the fifth best team overall on the medals table after the state’s youthful team won a total of 32 gold, 39 silver and 55 bronze medals. Weightlifting won three gold, while gymnastics produced a gold medal.

During a brief ceremony held at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park Yaba, all medalists including coaches were rewarded with gifts to show the appreciation for winning laurels for Lagos State.

In her key note address the Chairperson of Lagos State Gymnastics Association, Ogunseyinde, commended the athletes, coaches and other officials who made it possible.

“The Board of Lagos State Gymnastics Association is very proud of your efforts and sportsmanship that you all displayed at the last National Sports Festival and we are here to celebrate you.

“We will on our part, continue to give you the necessary support with the backing of the leadership of Lagos State Sports Commission,” she said.

Meanwhile, Lagos State Weightlifting Association on Friday rewarded the athletes and coaches for winning medals at the last National Sports Festival tagged “Edo 2020” held in April 2021.

The was monetary reward for the medal winning athletes and their coaches.

Disclosing the rewards during a brief ceremony held at Mobolaji Johnson Sports Center,Rowe Park, Yaba, the association’s chairman, Kunle Komolafe, hinted that the board deemed it necessary to reward the medalists for doing the state proud by winning 3 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals at the National Sports Festival in Benin, Edo State.

” What we are doing today is to reward excellent performance and to motivate our athletes, to enable them strive for more success in the future competitions.

“We are very proud of you all and the coaching crew, for putting up a good performance at the last National Sports Festival”.

During the Ceremony the Chairman announced the gift of the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000) for all the athletes for Weightlifting Kits.

Gold medalist Adijat Olarinoye was rewarded with N100,000, two silver medalists were rewarded with N50,000 each, while the four coaches and the secretary of the association were also rewarded with the sum of N50,000 each.

The Director Sports Development, Kolawole Moses who represented the Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission, Oluwatoyin Gafaar, commended the chairman of the association for putting resources together to reward the athletes.

He admonished the athletes to always strive to be successful in their sporting career to enable them represent the country in African Games, Commonwealth Games and the Olympic Games in nearest future.
