Anuoluwapo Opeyori, Nigeria’s number one badminton player, is happy that he is going to his first Olympic Games, which holds in August this year.

The player has however vowed that he is going to Tokyo 2020 with the determination to do Nigeria proud.

Opeyori will be playing alongside Godwin Oloufa in the Men’s Doubles, while Dorcas Adesokan will play in the Women’s Singles.

“I played in different international tournaments to accumulate the points that gave me the Olympics ticket. As the number one badminton player in Nigeria, I will work extra hard to excel at the Olympics.

“Nigeria is rated one of the best teams in badminton doubles men’s event in Africa, therefore competing among the top teams in the Olympics would give me the opportunity to improve on my skills and show the world that Nigeria has good talents in the sport. I am working hard day and night to ensure I have a good outing at the Olympics,” he said.

“I strongly believe that I and my partner will make a great impact at the Olympic Games. We have been training and preparing so hard with the assistance of a new coach from BCA who came from South Africa and has been with us for 8 days now.

“The intensity of the training with our current coach is high and I believe if we continue with the momentum, we not just participate at the Olympics but compete to win for the country,” he said.
