News reaching this medium has it that the scheduled Enugu East Senatorial District Rally, which is slated to hold today, the 17th June, 2021, may not play host to majority of stakeholders from the All Progressives Congress, APC from the Zone as the Nkanu leaders may have decided to stay away from the event.

Investigations have shown that the decision to stay away is said to have stemmed from the  derailment of the initial agenda for the rally, which solely was to unify the Enugu East Senatorial District ahead of the 2023 Gubernatorial elections, who much believe that after power must have successfully rotated to the two other zones namely Enugu West, (2007-2015 ) and Enugu North (2015- 2023), it is largely the turn of Enugu East to produce a Governor in fulfillment of such a gentleman agreement.

Speaking to our correspondent, a vital source, who craved for anonymity, told our medium that all of a sudden certain elements tried and unilaterally succeeded in changing the tone of the event from the original proposal of a non partisan rally as well as changing the thrust of the rally from one for solidarity of all the members of the Enugu East Senatorial District to one with numerous political undertones.

Numerous billboards, reading “Enugu East Zonal Rally For Gburugburu” have also been placed in strategic locations within the Zone. While numerous press announcements have been made all over various mediums, much suggesting that the rally has been hijacked.

The change in tone of the rally did appear to have made several APC leaders uncomfortable leading to the possibility of most of them staying away from the rally. Such highjack was stated to have displeased a lot of people and stakeholders particularly members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who do not want the rally to have any partisan undertone as organizing a rally for a Governor, who is just two years from rounding up his terms in office, much lends credence to such an assumption.

The source also noted that when the event took such a twist, the APC stakeholders decided to they will shun the event. Our source stated that the stakeholders were  afforded little or no other options  than to stay away from the event.
