A Lagos court has jailed one Ndubuisi Okeke for stealing a tricycle belonging to his principal on his first day of engagement as a rider.
Okeke was arraigned at Isolo Magistrates’ Court where he was found guilty and sentenced to two years imprisonment without an option of fine for stealing the tricycle.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs A.K. Shonubi found him guilty after the prosecutor, Mr Oje Uwagbale proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
Okeke was arrested and charged before the court in 2016 for stealing the tricycle worth N380,000 belonging to one Frank Ugwuadu who gave it to him to ride on hire purchase agreement.
During his arraignment, he pleaded not guilty and was granted bail but the matter was adjourned for trial.
During the trial, the owner told the court that Okeke approached him to buy the tricycle and he was ready to drive it on a high purchase and will deliver certain amount weekly.
Ugwuadu said he bought the tricycle and gave it to Okeke as they agreed.
He said he was surprised on the next day when Okeke came to him and said he did not see the tricycle again and asked him whether he was the person who came to move it.
The matter was reported to the police at Ikotun division who arrested Okeke and charged him to court.
During the trial, the prosecutor presented witnesses to prove to the court that the tricycle was not stolen by anybody except Okeke.
The court found him guilty and sentenced him accordingly.
