Eletu Queens Almost Stopped Us From Winning Aare Onikoyi Cup – Coach
Coach of Young Talent 99, Segun Daniel has confessed that Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens almost stopped us when both teams clashed recently at the just concluded U-19 Aare Onikoyi female football competition.
Young Talent 99 forced their opponents to 2-2 at the regulation time before winning the game 7-6 on penalty shootouts.
The tournament held recently started Campos mini stadium on Lagos Island.
Daniel who spoke to our correspondent after the game said he was surprised that Eletu Queens could put up such performance, noting that their opponents lost the game due to their goalkeeper’s poor run.
“We would have lost the match but we got our late equaliser which took the game to penalty shootouts. Eletu Queens’ goalie was not at her best and we capitalized on that to win the game,” he said.
In his reaction, assistant coach of Eletu Queens, Ekala Jeremiah expressed sadness, saying that they lost the match as a result of penalty shootouts..
“My girls tried their best but their best was not enough to win the game.Of course we have problem in goalkeeping area but we coaching crew take the responsibility and take result in good faith,”he said.
In the male category, Eto’ o FA defeated Latoyem FA 3-0 to win the title for the first time.
Cup donor, Are Tomori Williams expressed delight with the organisation, standard of play by the finalists, saying that the best team won the trophy.
He promised that he would continue to sponsor the tournament yearly as part of his contribution to football development in the state.
