APC Ward Congress: Nnamani, Onyeama, Chime Commend Delegates For Peaceful Conduct

Posted on July 31, 2021

As the APC holds its Ward Congresses all over the Federation, the exercise in Enugu experienced a seamless stride as Ward members peacefully elected their 27 Ward Executives adopting the consensus mode in a majority of wards.

In Amechi Ward 2, the Ward from which the SouthEast representative of the Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee and one time Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani, the congress exercise went off without a hitch as party members in their hundreds conducted themselves peacefully electing their Ward officers, Local Government delegates and State delegates via consensus.

Delighted with the crowd and the enthusiasm showed by the party members present, Senator Nnamani attributed such democratic behaviours to the vision of the Mai Mala Buni led leadership which was determined to entrench true democracy in the party.

In Udi, Trans- Ekulu and Ekeh, the Ward Congresses also witnessed peaceful conduct with the Ward delegates electing their 27 members by consensus.

In Ekeh Ward, which is the home ward of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, saw delegates arriving as early as 10: 30am to elect their Ward officers.

Speaking to members after the event, Onyeama stated that he was satisfied with the conduct of the congresses and commended the Enugu State Ward Congress Committee for ensuring a high fairness all over the state.

For Udi, a one time Governor of Enugu State, Chief Sullivan Chime, endorsed the Ward congresses as the best he had ever seen, describing the process as peaceful and as a victory for democracy.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Enugu State Ward Congress Committee, which was saddled with the responsibility for supervising the congress, Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, praised the members of the party for their orderly conduct and oneness. He stated that he had also informed the Resident Electoral Commisioner, REC, in the State about the congresses, which he said led to the process being properly monitored by the electoral body.

He also debunked the allegations that 206 result sheets were missing in the congress exercise, describing the story as the tale of those who wanted the committee to forcibly dance to their tune, this he said was not acceptable to him or to members of his committee.

He wondered how 206 result sheets could be missing and there would still be harmony and peace in the excercise amongst party members thus justifying the fact of the unpopularity of those pushing such false stories.
