CYRIACUS IZUEKWE

A 37-year old man, George Osagie Atohenghe, set aside anything about salvation at his church, Apostolic Faith Church, Anthony village branch, Lagos and engaged another member, Edia William, in a public fight over money.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Osagie, as popularly known in the church, reportedly wanted to obtain money from the members of the church in order to solve an disclosed problem he was facing.
He then conceived the idea to lie that his mother was seriously sick and requested fellow members to raise money for him as they had done for other members in such similar situation in the past.
However, Edia William, who knew him well, exposed and prevented Osagie from using the name of their Head Pastor, Samuel Aina, to obtain money from members.
Osagie was said to have become angry for William to have foiled his plans. He then descended on the victim, William and rained several fist blows on him injuring him in the process. He was reportedly rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
The matter was arrested to the Police and Osagie was arrested. After interrogation and having been found culpable, he was charged before the Yaba Magistrates Court for assault.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Barrister J.O. Hodonu, asked the Court to grant him bail and give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Salawu, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 11th October, 2021.
